About Me

My photo
Whether it's five miles or five hundred miles, riding a bicycle is more fun than anyone ever told me! My New Year's Resolution to cycle 10 miles a day or 40 minutes on a spin bike has meant that by the end of May I have cycled 2,600 miles! Because of my cycling wardrobe the weather has not stopped me from cycling (unless it really is -5 degrees or with wind gusts of 25 mph). Cycling in style and in comfort is really important to me as I don't really want to be covered in logos looking like a Ninja as I buy groceries or attend meetings. I have found some things that work for me but am always looking for new pieces. For me, Evans Cycles and Cycle Surgery for the basics. My two favourite brands for my wardrobe are www.velorution.com and www.velovixen.com but I am always looking for new pieces. I would love to know what works for you and why. Happy cycling!

Mice the Tourist rides around London in The Springtime

Mice Log Date 105.  20 miles in 1hr 45, ave speed 11.7 max speed 23.3 on  the Marin.

For me, there is no better way to explore a city than on a bicycle.  Especially when it's a city in which I have lived for quite some time - it is full of things I have never seen before, nor would ever see unless I was on two wheels.

From Admiralty Arch and along the Strand, up through Covent Garden and onto Tottenham Court Road where the pot holes are so big they should have a Council Tax Banding.

Ambling along just taking in the views, I cycled past this and thought of a friend - who to be honest was probably in there!!

Just along the street I saw this - I have no idea what it is or means but it was quite striking.

Then I was overtaken by this catering organisation.  Darwin Deli have been delivering sandwiches by bicycle to offices for a decade and this company  is probably one of many more since.  Slowly but surely the bicycle is becoming a standard asset for many businesses. Huzzahhhh!!

As I headed east along Oxford Street towards Tottenham Court Road the bus in front stopped at the red lights.

It was a 73.  "Hmmmph" I thought, "the 73 used to go to Warren Street so should be turning left here." I stayed behind it.  Was it indicating? Was it heckers like?  Nothing. Nothing at all.  I watched in horror as a cyclist went down the inside of it.  Thanks to absolutely nothing other than incredible luck, the lights stayed red.  The cyclist carried on past the bus.   The lights changed, the bus pulled forward and then  - and only then - did it indicate left.

I find that absolutely shocking.  Indicating is a warning, a notification of intention - what on earth is the point of doing it after the manoeuvre? What was worse was that the No.10 bus did exactly the same thing.

I find this unacceptable. Transport for London should be ensuring that their drivers indicate.  Who to write to I wonder?

On to Charlotte Street and found this company (which is probably a sort of Snappy Snaps) but it caught my eye.

I then came across someone with a birds eye view of what his colleagues were up to - a reminder of the ever changing and evolving buildings that make up this great city.

My next discovery was a bike shop!  What's not to like??!

I headed home via Hyde Park - the air was slightly cooler than anticipated but the daffs were happy!  And indeed - so was I!!
