About Me

My photo
Whether it's five miles or five hundred miles, riding a bicycle is more fun than anyone ever told me! My New Year's Resolution to cycle 10 miles a day or 40 minutes on a spin bike has meant that by the end of May I have cycled 2,600 miles! Because of my cycling wardrobe the weather has not stopped me from cycling (unless it really is -5 degrees or with wind gusts of 25 mph). Cycling in style and in comfort is really important to me as I don't really want to be covered in logos looking like a Ninja as I buy groceries or attend meetings. I have found some things that work for me but am always looking for new pieces. For me, Evans Cycles and Cycle Surgery for the basics. My two favourite brands for my wardrobe are www.velorution.com and www.velovixen.com but I am always looking for new pieces. I would love to know what works for you and why. Happy cycling!

Mice Log Summer Day 107

10.5 miles, top speed 16.8, average speed 9.1 on the Brommie to the West End and back via Hyde Park.

An appointment in the West End followed by a visit to  Velorution in Great Portland Street (and also Selfridges).  It is one of my favourite bike shops because in addition to what you'd expect - knowledge, stock, in-house mechanics - it also always has really interesting and unusual bicycles and accessories.

For instance.... What's the Time, Mr Wolf?  It's time for a bike ride.....

and less than a week after The Tweed Run,  a limited edition Carradice saddle bag in Tweed with a reflective thread

and I found the perfect small Carradice to add to my collection - the Zipped Roll.  This is ideal for my road bike. It has a 2L capacity so can look after my pump, spare tubes, over trousers, extra layer, batteries and food.
So, less Goldilocks and the Three Bears more the5milecyclist and The Three Bags - small (Zipped Roll 2L as just bought!), medium (Nelson 15L) and large (super C 23L) that will fit on all my bikes (except the Brompton) and I have the quick release system so I don't have to faff about undoing buckles in the rain.

Then this caught my eye!  The owner explained that at a bike fair in Rome, the bicycle manufacturer had branched into luggage.

Perfect for the summer, not too big or too small and a really neat design.

Prices for bicycles and accessories vary like mountain ranges - for me, some are way too steep, some can only be dreamed about, some are such fun they have to be bought on the spot and some are real bargains! I shall continue to keep Velorution on my radar as every time I go there I find something that I haven't seen anywhere else that, for me, is well-designed and different.  And it stays competitive in terms of pricing.

Tomorrow is Lidl Day!   Their special offer day (or whatever they call it) which is really good for total bargains.  A great place for new cyclists to start as all the bits and pieces you need - kit for the bike, kit for the cyclist - can be quite expensive when added together.  Last months Special Offer day had cycling shoes for £12, a set of lights for £3.  I went to two stores and made these observations. I will be haring off there tomorrow as I think a set of lights for £3 even as back up cannot be sniffed at.

I don't think I need any more luggage.....!
