About Me

My photo
Whether it's five miles or five hundred miles, riding a bicycle is more fun than anyone ever told me! My New Year's Resolution to cycle 10 miles a day or 40 minutes on a spin bike has meant that by the end of May I have cycled 2,600 miles! Because of my cycling wardrobe the weather has not stopped me from cycling (unless it really is -5 degrees or with wind gusts of 25 mph). Cycling in style and in comfort is really important to me as I don't really want to be covered in logos looking like a Ninja as I buy groceries or attend meetings. I have found some things that work for me but am always looking for new pieces. For me, Evans Cycles and Cycle Surgery for the basics. My two favourite brands for my wardrobe are www.velorution.com and www.velovixen.com but I am always looking for new pieces. I would love to know what works for you and why. Happy cycling!

A Mice in a Race - whatever next?!

The recovery from the IG Smithfield Nocturne is taking longer than I thought!  Nothing to do with fitness or indeed me but much more the hilarious and fantastic reactions to the event.

First things first - Team Velovixen came 4th!! Huzzahhh!!  I was only 30 seconds behind the others! 30 seconds?!  Next time I shall use the big ring at the front to see if I can close the gap.

In addition, it seems that the super elite were brought to the attention of British Cycling because apparently hands were not on handlebars at the crossing of the line. What a shock.  Rules is rules I guess but it seems a bit harsh.  At least I now know  I must remember that for next time just in case I am ever at the front...!

It all just reaffirms what a wonderful world of cycling is available. Five miles, five counties or five countries - it really doesn't matter what sort of cycling you are looking for.  And it doesn't matter what sort of bicycle you have either - just as long as it's safe.

The excitement has continued all week as Twitter, Facebook, a great collection of serious cyclist bloggers and cycling websites are full of reviews and news from the race. I think one of my proudest moments was seeing Team Velovixen on their webpage!!  Moi included!! Woweeee!!  Needless to say friends and fellow cyclists have been very kind and suitably impressed.

The next activity has been signing up to Tribesports which can be done through Facebook, Twitter or email.  A brilliant way to set sports goals and gather support to achieve them.  Mine seem to be cycling and nutrition.  I couldn't bring myself to set a challenge involving planks - well, not yet anyway.

My stats for the week so far are:

Monday to Islington on the Brommie
18.58 miles, 20.03 mph max in 2 hrs 10 with 8.5 ave

Tuesday to Hornsey Road Brommie
