About Me

My photo
Whether it's five miles or five hundred miles, riding a bicycle is more fun than anyone ever told me! My New Year's Resolution to cycle 10 miles a day or 40 minutes on a spin bike has meant that by the end of May I have cycled 2,600 miles! Because of my cycling wardrobe the weather has not stopped me from cycling (unless it really is -5 degrees or with wind gusts of 25 mph). Cycling in style and in comfort is really important to me as I don't really want to be covered in logos looking like a Ninja as I buy groceries or attend meetings. I have found some things that work for me but am always looking for new pieces. For me, Evans Cycles and Cycle Surgery for the basics. My two favourite brands for my wardrobe are www.velorution.com and www.velovixen.com but I am always looking for new pieces. I would love to know what works for you and why. Happy cycling!

A week of 10 mile rides

What a great thing #30daysofbiking has been. A worldwide and wonderful way to encourage us all to ride our bikes. It is true that I don't need much encouragement - I am out on my bike every day unless it's way below freezing and icy. Thanks to kind advice from friends I have a wardrobe for all weathers which means that, for me, there is no such thing as a grey sky - only a great sky!

The last seven days of April have seen me do 72 miles pootling around London on my Brommie with a top speed of 20.74mph. I have had  Lunch in the City, lunch in Clerkenwell (twice), I've taught adults Bikeability (in the old days known as Cycling Proficiency), I've pootled around a park or two, been out to dinner, played bicycle polo and done a quite a bit of shopping.

There has also been a visit or two to Gails Bakery.  Very Bad Habit!! Need to cycle more to burn off the calories!  Also need to try and cycle past Le Pain Quotidien for the same reason!

On the last day I was on the Boardman whilst it was having a dynamo light fitted and the guy in the shop leant me his Kona Lava Dome Race Light bike! Wow!! The tyres are ginormous and it went like a rocket

For the record, the stats of the week are:

@30daysofbiking Day 24. 10.7 miles, 7.6mph average speed, 17.5 mph max on the Brommie! Lunch with a friend in Clerkenwell

@30daysofbiking Day 25. 10  miles on the Brommie to The Harrow Road and back via Hyde Park

@30daysofbiking Day 27.  20.74   miles,  6.9 average speed,   18.8 mph max on the Brommie to Maida Vale and back via the West End and Hyde Park!

@30daysofbiking Day 28. 10  miles,  8.9  average speed,  16.7  mph max on the Brommie! West amongst the Chelsea supporters to Cycle Surgery and back via Kensington Palace Gardens.

@30daysofbiking Day 29  12.50 miles Ave speed 10.3, 19.7 max in 1hr 15 on the Brommie.  To Cycle Surgery in the City, Central Bikes in Exmouth Street and back home via Hyde Park

@30daysofbiking Day 30 10 miles to Clerkenwell for lunch and back along with a visit to Bike Fix to have a dynamo hub and light fitted. Cant wait to test them out!

It has been a great 30 days and I hope it encourages others to carry on cycling! I certainly intend to!
