About Me

My photo
Whether it's five miles or five hundred miles, riding a bicycle is more fun than anyone ever told me! My New Year's Resolution to cycle 10 miles a day or 40 minutes on a spin bike has meant that by the end of May I have cycled 2,600 miles! Because of my cycling wardrobe the weather has not stopped me from cycling (unless it really is -5 degrees or with wind gusts of 25 mph). Cycling in style and in comfort is really important to me as I don't really want to be covered in logos looking like a Ninja as I buy groceries or attend meetings. I have found some things that work for me but am always looking for new pieces. For me, Evans Cycles and Cycle Surgery for the basics. My two favourite brands for my wardrobe are www.velorution.com and www.velovixen.com but I am always looking for new pieces. I would love to know what works for you and why. Happy cycling!

Mice Log Date 71 Ssssssoooooooooo Cold!!

Mice Log Date 71. 10.50 miles in the coldest and windiest weather I have ever, ever cycled in.  I blame it on a friend who posted on a well known forum early this morning that he was out and about on his bike despite the weather.

This gave me a ridiculously false sense of security. "Oh well, if he's cycling today it can't be too bad" I thought.   Wrong!!  As I opened the front door it was like opening the door of a freezer in a supermarket.  Pppatchew!  I couldn't believe it.  -2 with a windchill factor of much more.

Thank goodness for fabric technology. I was wearing two pairs of cycling leggings under a pair of Gore waterproof trousers , two merino baselayers, an Assos baselayer, a Max Mara padded jacket, two buffs and a bright orange (to wake up the dozey commuters) Mountain cycling jacket.  I was truly layered up! Oh and two pairs of socks. The only part of me that was cold, was my face. It was unbelievable.

Half way down the road I saw what looked like squashed snowflakes. I hoped that the roads had been gritted otherwise I was in real trouble.

A little hill into Clapham warmed me up a weencey bit and four miles after that I was at my rendez-vous.  At lunch a friend and I headed to Streatham and found a great cafe Earl Grey and Rose  which did really, really good food!  OK so it was a ham sandwich but Sourdough with ham off the bone and sundried tomatoes accompanied by salad drizzled with Balsamic vinegar really was delicious and very unexpected.

The bike ride home was better because the sun was out but the air temperature was still biting. Truly biting.

For some reason I felt the urge to head to Daylesfords for some of their fresh soup and an absolutely enormous chocolate biscuit!

Goodness knows how cold it is going to be tomorrow - be careful out there peeps.
