About Me

My photo
Whether it's five miles or five hundred miles, riding a bicycle is more fun than anyone ever told me! My New Year's Resolution to cycle 10 miles a day or 40 minutes on a spin bike has meant that by the end of May I have cycled 2,600 miles! Because of my cycling wardrobe the weather has not stopped me from cycling (unless it really is -5 degrees or with wind gusts of 25 mph). Cycling in style and in comfort is really important to me as I don't really want to be covered in logos looking like a Ninja as I buy groceries or attend meetings. I have found some things that work for me but am always looking for new pieces. For me, Evans Cycles and Cycle Surgery for the basics. My two favourite brands for my wardrobe are www.velorution.com and www.velovixen.com but I am always looking for new pieces. I would love to know what works for you and why. Happy cycling!

Mice Log 62

A trip to meet a friend.  21.5 miles 10.2 average speed, 21.2 max, in 2hrs 8 mins.

The sun was out, it was nearly warm and it didn't really matter that I was soooooo lost - did it?!  Not a clue where I was except I was riding my bike so I didn't actually care!  I eventually arrived at the correct destination - a quick hello and goodbye then I was off again!

I pootled back and had the immense satisfaction of seeing my speed light up a road sign - 15mph!  Woop Woop! (To the sign, not the speed!)

The shared path across Wandsworth Common didn't appeal at all as words of advice from years ago said not to do that so I took an alternative route and found myself in front of  Wandsworth Prison!  I may have pedalled a bit faster at that point!

I went off to investigate various cycle paths  - what a signposting nonsense it can be. Some of them, I would say, are downright dangerous where the signs are missing or join a path which is actually a 10" leap onto a pavement. Specifically where you drop onto the main road a dual carriage way on Wandsworth Bridge just before a turning into a street.  Absolutely ridiculous.

As the sky was so blue I stopped to take a couple of pics.

On the way home I thought a pootle around Bishops Park in Fulham was a bit of a plan. I have been going there for over 30 years and know it like the back of my hand.  It was full of wheels! Bladers, scooters, cyclists, balance bikers all sorts.

I headed to the river and watched possibly the Oxford or Cambridge crews train for their annual race in April.

As I cycled on the shared path by the river, practically no pedalling, avoiding dogs and peeps in a gentle cruising mode completely enjoying the sun on my face and the wind in my hair a father and grown up son team said that it was actually a no-cycling route.  "No Way!!" I replied "I've been run over by cyclists down here for 30 years! It's part of the fun!"
It seems it's a very recent change, the signs are about the size of six pence pieces and they haven't put any paint anywhere. I got off my bike at that point as it's no good saying you don't break rules as you break them!   It seems these two are cyclists too and one of them said "The best thing you can do for your health is a little a day, every day!"  Hahahaha I laughed as I am the5milecyclist!
